Small Business Committee Meeting
Sales and Acquisitions of Small Businesses:
The Process from the Perspective of Owners and BuyersSusan Freedman, investment banker specializing in mergers and acquisitions, will provide an overview of the sale and acquisition process from the perspective of owners and buyers of small businesses.
The initial phase of the process is the planning phase which must be done properly and timely in order for the remainder of the process to ensue efficiently and successfully. The next phase is contacting and screening prospects to determine their level of commitment and ability to consummate a transaction. The third phase involves the negotiations regarding the purchase/sale price and terms of the transaction. Finally, the last phase consists of successfully closing the transaction.
In addition to discussing the role of the intermediary, Ms. Freedman will highlight the roles of other professionals such as the attorneys, accountants, and bankers. For a transaction to proceed smoothly and cost effectively which is an important factor to our small business clients, it is imperative that all parties and their professional advisors know how to work together for a common goal.
