NAVIGATING THE MEDICARE SECONDARY PAYER ACT

Medicare law often intersects with the practice of workers compensation in situations where the injured worker (claimant) is either a Medicare beneficiary or in expectation of soon becoming Medicare-eligible. In these circumstances, practitioners must be keenly aware of Medicare’s interest and prepared to effectively advise their client of the responsibilities and risks associated with Medicare compliance.

Defending Dignity: Pro Bono Advocacy for Older Adults

SeniorLAW Center will soon embark upon its 50th year of service and will hold its annual Celebration of Justice March 25, 2026. I encourage everyone to attend and support its invaluable service to older adults, not just financially, which of course is always welcome, but by volunteering your time to enhance the priceless services it provides. One constant in all of our lives is that if we live, we will age. Join us in creating a world that values older people, hears their voices and works fiercely to secure their rights.

UPenn Moot Court Invitational Competition

Penn Moot Court is seeking judges for our upcoming tournament on March 28 at the University of Pennsylvania.

The tournament will consist of four rounds, preceded by a judges’ briefing. The full event will run approximately from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. If you are only available for part of the day, we would still greatly appreciate your help—judging even a single round is incredibly valuable to our competitors.

Volunteer to Be a Mock Trial Judge for the AAJ Student Trial Advocacy Competition!

The American Association for Justice (AAJ) is looking for lawyers in the Philadelphia area to judge our Student Trial Advocacy Competition (STAC), where law students take on the roles of attorneys and witnesses in a mock trial setting, which allows them to develop a deeper understanding of the skills and strategies needed to succeed as a trial lawyer.

AAJ is looking for lawyers from all areas of law.  AAJ membership is not required, nor is past mock trial experience. Lawyers will be judging the student’s advocacy skills. The Philadelphia region at City Hall (1400 John F Kennedy Blvd) will feature 18 teams from around the country. Each team will participate in three qualifying rounds, where they will represent both the plaintiff and defense sides of the case. From there, eight teams will advance to the semi-finals, then four teams to the finals. Two teams from the region will advance to the National Finals in New Orleans, LA March 26-29.

We need at least three lawyers per courtroom to judge each round!

For volunteer questions, please contact AAJ at STAC@justice.org
