Chancellor Katayun Jaffari issued a statement, with more than 20 former Chancellors signing on in support.
“The actions of the Trump administration are directly in conflict with the mission of our Association and the values of our profession, which include respect for the rule of law, the importance of judicial independence, and the need to advance the fair and equal administration of justice. As judges and attorneys, we commit to supporting and defending the Constitution. No judge or attorney should fear personal or professional retribution for the rulings they make or the clients whom they represent. These attacks are also dangerous in that they erode public trust in the justice system, which is essential to its ability to function effectively and to our society as a whole.”

I’ve mourned the decline of the Italian BYO in Philly for most of the last decade. Memories of hearty, affordable South Philly nights out at trattorias like the beloved Mr. Martino’s are a quaint notion in an era of tighter margins and consumer taste for good onsite booze.
Perspectives
The core mission of the Philadelphia Bar Foundation is to remove barriers to justice as it engages the community in support of civil legal aid. Most of you know about the grant making arm of the Foundation and that is a critical part of who we are and what we do, but are you aware of all the other programs that the Foundation supports? In addition to making unrestricted grants to dozens of nonprofit partners, we also administer programs which are vital to our core mission and help to support the removal of barriers to the civil legal aid system in Philadelphia.
