Philadelphia Bar Association Celebrates 2023 Accomplishments, Introduces Jen Coatsworth, as 97th Chancellor

The Philadelphia Bar Association’s 97th Chancellor, Jen Coatsworth, discussed the organization’s agenda for 2024 at the 2023 Annual Meeting at the Ballroom at the Ben on Decemeber 13, including continuing its focus on growing diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging within the profession; advancing access to justice, and elevating professional excellence and civility while growing the reputation and influence of Philadelphia lawyers.

2024 Chancellor Jen Coatworth writes: "As we enter a New Year, and get ready to recognize Martin Luther King Jr. Day this month and Black History Month in February, it’s critical that we remember that DEI is a something we cannot simply focus on for one day, or for 30 days out of the year. In order to truly advance the principles of diversity and to create a legal profession that reflects the communities we serve, we must commit to both conversation and action year-round...."

Philadelphia Bar Association Announces Winners of 2023 Bar Elections

The contested races this year included Vice Chancellor, Treasurer and five spots on the Board of Governors. Ezra Wohgelernter, shareholder at Feldman Shepherd Wohgelernter Tanner Weinstock and Dodig LLP, has been elected Vice Chancellor of the Philadelphia Bar Association. He will serve as Vice Chancellor in 2024, Chancellor-elect in 2025 and Chancellor in 2026.

Philadelphia Bar Association Commends Governor, General Assembly on Right to Counsel in Guardianship Matters, Expanding Clean Slate and Funding Indigent Defense

Philadelphia Bar Association Chancellor Marc Zucker issued a statement commending Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and the Pennsylvania General Assembly for enacting measures last week that will expand the Commonwealth's Clean Slate structure, provide a right to counsel and other reforms of guardianship laws and fund indigent defense at the state level for the first time in Pennsylvania history.
