REDUCING THE DUES OF THE TAX SECTION

WHEREAS, the financial report for 1987 prepared by the Philadelphia Bar Association (the Association) for its Section of Taxation (the Tax Section) showed a decline in the balance credited to the Tax Section's account from $2,743.75 as of January 1, 1987 to ($1, 690.74) as of December 31, 1987;

WHEREAS, in mid-1988 the Tax Section prepared a projected financial report for 1988 showing that its balance could decline to ($3,950) by December 31, 1988;

WHEREAS, to remedy this situation the Tax Section (a) raised the fees for its workshop and other programs, and (b) requested that the Association increase the Tax Section's annual membership dues from $25 to $40, effective January 1, 1989;

WHEREAS, on October 27, 1988, the Board of Governors of the Association approved the Tax Section's request to increase its annual membership dues to $40, effective January 1, 1989;

WHEREAS, the financial report for 1988 prepared by the Association for the Tax Section showed a balance credited to the Tax Section's account of $229.69 as of December 31, 1988;

WHEREAS, each year from 1989 through 1993 the balance credited to the Tax Section's account has increased an average of $7,002;

WHEREAS, the projected 1994 increase to the balance credited to the Tax Section's account is $9,850;

WHEREAS, the Tax Section, as a division of the Association, is intended to operate on a not-for-profit basis;

WHEREAS, the Tax Section anticipates that it will continue to charge fees for its programs that, together with an annual membership fee of $25 and its current balance of approximately $45,000 will cover the full cost of its activities for the foreseeable future;

WHEREAS, no other Section of the Association charges more than $25 in annual dues;

WHEREAS, in recognition of the foregoing, the Tax Section Council has voted unanimously to reduce the Section's annual dues from $40 to $25;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the annual membership dues of the Tax Section are decreased from $40 to $25, effective January l, 1995.
