RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE PRO BONO TASK FORCE TO INSTITUTIONALIZE PRO BONO SUPPORT IN THE PROFESSION

WHEREAS, in December 2001, Philadelphia Bar Association Chancellor Allan Gordon empanelled a Pro Bono Task Force to comprehensively evaluate the need for, and the delivery of, pro bono legal services to the needy, disadvantaged and disenfranchised in Philadelphia;

WHEREAS, the Pro Bono Task Force, after extensive research and investigation, submitted a Report, including Findings and Recommendations ("the Report") to the Board of Governors on June 27, 2002;

WHEREAS, the Board of Governors, after discussion and upon oral motion made and duly seconded, accepted the Report for comment and study;

WHEREAS, the Pro Bono Task Force recommended the institutionalization of pro bono support in the profession by making pro bono participation an integral aspect of the culture of the legal community;

WHEREAS, the Board of Governors supports institutionalizing pro bono participation as a goal of the Association;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Philadelphia Bar Association approves, accepts and supports this recommendation and will pursue all avenues to ensure that pro bono service becomes a fundamental and integral aspect of being a member of the Philadelphia Bar Association.
