Delete IP Law

Program Originally Presented Friday, August 29, 2025

Elon Musk and Jack Dorsey recently made public statements that we should “delete” all intellectual property (IP) law. Their statements emerged just as AI companies face mounting legal scrutiny over how they source training data—most notably, copyrighted material scraped without consent. Their comments reflect a broader concern about how IP law functions in the digital age, especially regarding its impact on innovation and creator compensation. Advocates of IP law feel that patent, copyright and trademark protections should be seen as practical tools that incentivize creation, ensure market integrity, and support entrepreneurial growth. Eliminating that protection potentially destabilizes current licensing agreements, invalidates existing contracts, and erodes the legal basis for litigation involving infringement, misappropriation, or unauthorized use.

This timely and practical CLE will explore a world without Intellectual Property protection. Our panelists will examine the pros and cons of using IP laws to protect and enforce IP rights.
