Medical Marijuana Patients in the Pennsylvania Workforce: What Workers and Employers Need to Know

Program Originally Presented Tuesday, April 29, 2025

Valuable for those who represent both workers and employers, during this CLE presentation, learn about the rights of medical marijuana patients in the workforce and employer protections.  The program will examine how an employer can address suspected on-the-job cannabis use. Panelists address the availability of and impacts on unemployment and workers comp claims along with the availability of discrimination lawsuits for patients who are terminated. Finally, the program identifies the applicable Pennsylvania and Federal statutes that guide these determinations, and the 2024 City of Philadelphia ordinance regarding pre-employment drug testing.

When at work, the right to use cannabis for medical reasons can clash with the employer’s desire to keep the workplace “drug-free.”

Attend this program to understand the complexities of medical marijuana use in the workplace, the impact on unemployment and workers’ compensation claims, and learn what workers and employers need to know.
