Dog bite litigation has been part of our jurisprudence since the founding of the United States. This CLE will provide a brief overview of the history and evolution of the state of dog bite law. The program will then explore the basic provisions of Pennsylvania dog bite laws, including the traditional elements of negligence and principles of strict liability, the current dog bite statutes, along with the recent 2024 amendments. Finally, our featured speaker will examine recent legislation as to prevention of cruelty to animals, as well as compare Pennsylvania’s Dog Bite statutes to other jurisdictions (New Jersey).
