A View from the Workers’ Compensation Appeal Board and Meet the New Commissioners

Program Originally Presented Friday, November 15, 2024

The Workers' Compensation Appeal Board (WCAB) hears and decides appeals from the Decisions and Orders of workers' compensation judges (WCJs) throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The WCAB reviews a WCJ's decision to ensure that it is supported by substantial and competent evidence and is legally in accordance with the Workers' Compensation Act (Act), regulations, and case law.

In this CLE program, Chairman Frioni and Commissioners Krebs and Mundy provide essential WCAB updates. The Chairman and other Commissioners address necessary filing and procedural information, as well as offer guidance on how to litigate appeals. Learn tips and preferences on virtual and/or in-person protocols. Find out the latest information on improving your appellate practice.

Finally, hear from one of the newest Commissioner to join the WCAB, our own Philadelphia bar association member, Commissioner Catherine Surbeck who will give attorneys advice on things “she wished she knew when she was practicing” from the other side of the bench.

Workers' Compensation Appeal Board Panelists:
Commissioner Alfonso Frioni, Jr., Esq., Chairman
Commissioner Robert A. Krebs, Esq.
Commissioner Maura Mundy, Esq.
Commissioner Catherine Surbeck, Esq.
