IOLTA Management for Lawyers: The Nuts and Bolts of Handling IOLTA/Trust Accounts

Hosted and presented by M&T Nota

Originally Presented on Wednesday, April 24, 2024

There are very strict rules from state to state concerning how client funds are handled, where the money is kept, and when it can be used. All lawyers are required to keep unearned client funds in a separate trust account, commonly called an IOLTA, meaning “Interest on Lawyer Trust Account”. Despite the fact that mismanaging or commingling money in an IOLTA can result in a reprimand or even disbarment in more extreme cases, not enough time is spent training attorneys on the various intricacies that go into correctly managing their finances. Many attorneys still only have a minimal understanding on how to properly manage them.

In this nuts-and-bolts CLE program, our featured speaker will provide an overview of IOLTA Accounts and the best practices for managing your trust accounts and clients' funds. This presentation will address common concerns for attorneys with their IOLTA and provide guidance and tools to help you avoid common missteps.

Attend this CLE program to understand what an IOLTA is, best practices, and the available tools for managing them so that you can ensure compliance and focus on serving your clients.
