The law of Section 1983 continues to develop in the United States Supreme Court and lower federal courts on an ongoing basis. Sovereign immunity, prosecutorial and judicial immunity, qualified immunity: for a statute designed to permit suits against the government, Section 1983 is subject to an astonishing number of exceptions that may protect the government from suit. Section 1983 litigators must have an in-depth knowledge of Section 1983 law and stay abreast of current developments.
