Bias in the Philadelphia legal system acts as an impediment to access to justice. Bias can affect how lawyers, witnesses and victims are treated and can affect the outcome of cases. In this CLE session, panelists will address:

  • The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania’s Gender and Race/Ethnic Bias Report and how its recommendations are being implemented by Pennsylvania Interbranch Commission
  • The Philadelphia Fair Practices Ordinance that protects Philadelphia residents from discrimination
  • The efforts of the First Judicial District to address bias
  • How to overcome or respond to challenges around bias and discrimination including how to handle microaggressions
