What You Will Learn

  • It is now globally recognized that legal teams need to be able to draw on the widest possible pool of thought, skill sets, perspectives, and experience, with staff representing both background and ethnicity of clients and customers.  Diversity boosts innovation, reduces skill gaps, strengthens communication and prepares a legal team to handle a broader range of clients, cases and issues. Diversity: It Makes for Stronger Litigation Teams

Program Originally Presented Thursday, October 27, 2022

It is now globally recognized that legal teams need to be able to draw on the widest possible pool of thought, skill sets, perspectives, and experience, with staff representing both background and ethnicity of clients and customers.  Diversity boosts innovation, reduces skill gaps, strengthens communication and prepares a legal team to handle a broader range of clients, cases and issues. Diverse teams -- those with people of different races, genders, sexual orientations, etc. – outperform homogenous teams. An Acritas report found that clients not only pay more when a legal team is diverse, they are also more likely to describe the legal services they received in favorable terms. They speak more highly of law firms with diverse teams, and they refer colleagues and clients to those firms more readily, positively effecting the bottom line. This dynamic CLE program explains why.

The panelists, Sheryl L. Axelrod, the President & CEO of The Axelrod Firm, PC, and Jane Kespradit, a partner and senior counsel at LimNexus LLP, are members of NAMWOLF, the National Association of Minority and Women Owned Law Firms.  Every NAMWOLF member law firm has reached diversity in equity. Each is majority-owned by women lawyers, attorneys of color, and/or LGBTQ attorneys. Sheryl and Jane examine the competitive advantages of companies retaining diverse litigation teams, and their experiences achieving diversity in equity and recognizing it as a competitive and legal advantage. Jeffrey Hutton serves as Assistant General Counsel at Exelon, an organization that supports diversity in the legal profession including NAMWOLF member law firms, shares experiences and benefits of diverse legal teams.

Attend this program to hear how diverse legal teams tremendously benefit the legal profession.
