Judicial Ethics and Discipline in Pennsylvania

This CLE program will cover the history, development, and function of Pennsylvania’s Judicial Conduct Board and the Court of Judicial Discipline. The Court of Judicial Discipline hears complaints and formal charges against judicial officers in the Commonwealth. Panelists will explore the long history of judicial discipline in Pennsylvania, the catalyzing events of judicial indiscretion which led to the establishment of this Court in 1993, the constitutional amendment and the legislative provisions which shaped and formed the Court. After reviewing the Court’s past, panelists will examine its present function. Panelists address the Court’s operations, its management of cases, and the Board of Judicial Conduct, which brings complaints against judicial officers. Panelists explain the composition of the court and its governing laws, including the Code of Judicial Conduct.
