Decoding the Pennsylvania Political Subdivision Tort Claims Act

This course provides tools to understand what liability exposure local agencies in Pennsylvania have for personal injury and property damage in premises liability and motor vehicle claims. Learn when a local agency can be sued under the Pennsylvania Tort Claims Act. Exceptions to this immunity that will be explored include:

  • Streets
  • Sidewalks
  • Traffic Controls
  • Real Property
  • Motor Vehicles
  • Utilities

Statutory limitations on what damages plaintiffs can receive based on the type of injury claimed and insurance coverage that is available will be discussed. Experienced practitioners provide illustrations from prior cases to highlight when local agencies may be liable.
