Many attorneys have the opportunity to join a nonprofit board throughout their careers.  For anyone, this can be a very rewarding experience, bring opportunities to improve one’s skills, make valuable connections, and help a cause that is personally meaningful.

This encore CLE program examines many of the common issues attorneys encounter and offer practical tips for those considering serving or already serving on a nonprofit board. Additionally, the speakers provide an introduction to nonprofit finance and discuss IRS filing requirements.

  • Due diligence before joining a nonprofit Board
  • Board member fiduciary duties
  • Conflicts of interest
  • Balance sheet and Profit and Loss Statement
  • IRS Form 990
  • Other issues that may arise in the course of Board service
