Speed, Weed, and Cars:
A Discussion of the Shifting Article 1 Section 8 Protections in Pennsylvania and Other Practical Pointers regarding the Law & Philadelphia’s Courts

Program Originally Presented Thursday, February 24, 2022

Over the last year, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court has reoriented the balance of power between citizens and police with respect to cars, marijuana use, and possibly the vague notion of a “high crime area.” Its recent decisions in Alexander, Barr and other cases have cut through some of the legal fictions that have previously permitted police to work around individual constitutional rights.

In this CLE program, the speaker will address what those opinions mean and how they impact litigation in Pennsylvania. He will also examine Rule 600, and where we stand with respect to speedy trial after COVID, and the Supreme Court’s more recent decision in Commonwealth v. Harth, along with other pending cases that may impact criminal practice.

Featured Speaker:
Aaron Marcus, Esq.
Chief of Appeals
Defender Association of Philadelphia
