Cultural Competence in Life and Estate Planning

Program originally presented Tuesday, June 7, 2022

Understanding the importance of cultural competency is a necessity for lawyers, especially for practitioners who assist clients in their life and estate planning. As our client demographics continue to shift, understanding how to effectively interact, work and develop meaningful relationships with clients from diverse backgrounds has become an essential skill to ensure proper representation. This dynamic CLE program will focus on life and estate planning and serving diverse communities, with considerations of a client’s race, ethnicity, age group, sexuality, gender identity, religion, familial structure, socioeconomic status, native language, disability, neurodiversity and other factors that make planning for diverse populations in Philadelphia unique. The panelists will address community-based differences across client groups, highlight case studies and resources that will assist practitioners who encounter clients from diverse backgrounds, and speak to the importance of the Court’s role in providing equal access to justice.
