Pro Bono Representation of Nonprofit Organizations

Program Originally Presented Thursday, October 28, 2021

Nonprofit organizations are legal entities that are exempt from federal and state income, sales, property and other taxes. Some nonprofit organizations, known as public charities or "501(c)(3) exempt organizations," can also accept tax-deductible donations from individuals and other entities. Representing a nonprofit organization requires a knowledge of the laws that govern their formation and the law granting exemption from taxes for such entities.

Attend this encore program to learn how to assist pro bono clients with forming a Pennsylvania nonprofit corporation and applying to the IRS for tax-exempt status. The presentation will equip you with the knowledge and skills necessary to represent nonprofit organizations through various public interest legal service organizations. Hear from a representative from a non-profit organization to discuss the various pro bono opportunities offered by their organization.

Attend to hear the basics of representing nonprofit organizations.
