Katayun I. Jaffari, co-chair of the ESG and the capital markets & securities practices and chair of the corporate governance practice at Cozen O’Connor, has been elected Vice Chancellor of the Philadelphia Bar Association. She will serve as Vice Chancellor in 2023, Chancellor-elect in 2024 and Chancellor in 2025. Jaffari’s current and past Philadelphia Bar Association positions include chair of the Board of Governors, chair of the Business Law Section, co-chair of the Women’s Rights Committee and member of the executive committee of the Public Interest Law Section.

The Association’s elections were uncontested this year. The candidates were officially named to their positions during the Association’s Annual Meeting on December 15.

In addition to Vice Chancellor, the following candidates will begin terms as line officers on Jan. 1, 2023: Michael J. Stackow, assistant chief counsel, employment law, U.S. Immigration and Customers Enforcement (Secretary), Diane Penneys Edelman, professor of law and director of international programs, Villanova University (Assistant Secretary), Matthew S. Olesh, partner, Obermayer Rebmann Maxwell & Hippel (Treasurer), and Dino Privitera, founder The Privitera Law Firm (Assistant Treasurer.)

Five new members were elected to the Association’s Board of Governors. Each will serve a three-year term. Seven new representatives were elected to serve on the Executive Committee of the Association’s Young Lawyers Division. They will also each serve for three years. Terms for all of the candidates will begin on Jan. 1, 2023.

The five new members of the Board of Governors are Ryan Becker, partner, Fox Rothschild, Josh J.T. Byrne, shareholder, Marshall Dennehey Warner Coleman & Goggin, Debbie R. Gross, CEO and president of Pennsylvanians for Modern Courts, Hillary Ladov, insurance coverage partner, McAngus, Goudelock & Courie, and Vik Patel, divisional supervising attorney, Housing Unit, Community Legal Services.

The seven new members of the YLD Executive Committee are Sarah D. Boutros, associate, Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott, Charles L. Burrows, staff attorney, Legal Aid of Southeastern PA, Kiersty DeGroote, associate, Bochetto & Lentz, P.C., Sydney Groll, Independence Foundation Public Interest Legal Fellow, Support Center for Child Advocates, Omar Khawaja, assistant district attorney, Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office, Katerina Krohn, assistant district attorney, Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office, and Gina Ragone, associate, Fleming Petenko Law
