Philadelphia Bar Association Chancellor Wesley R. Payne IV released the following tribute to U.S. Magistrate Judge Hon. Marilyn Heffley, who recently died. Heffley was a former chair and co-chair of the Association’s Women’s Rights and Corporate In-House Counsel Committees and a longtime member of its Women in the Profession, Environmental Law, Delivery of Legal Services and Professional Responsibility Committees, as well as the Public Interest Section. Since becoming a Magistrate Judge for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania in 2014, she was also very active with the Federal Courts Committee. Judge Heffley was the 2021 recipient of the Public Interest Section’s Hon. Louis H. Pollak Award.

“We are saddened to hear of the death of Judge Heffley, a distinguished jurist and a beloved member of the Philadelphia legal community,” Payne said. “A member of the Philadelphia Bar Association since being admitted to practice in 1985, Judge Heffley was generous with her time and expertise, actively serving on our sections and committees and as a presenter for continuing legal education programs. She was deeply committed to public service and to promoting equal access to justice, and we were proud to honor her work as the 2021 recipient of the Public Interest Section’s Pollak Award. She will be deeply missed as a valued colleague, leader, mentor and friend.”
