Philadelphia Bar Association Chancellor Katayun I. Jaffari released the following statement regarding the results of the November 4 general election:
“The Philadelphia Bar Association would like to extend its sincere congratulations to all of the candidates who prevailed in the November 4 general election. We were particularly gratified that the majority of voters cast ballots to retain Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justices Kevin Dougherty and David Wecht, who will each now serve additional 10-year terms, and Justice Christine Donahue who will serve two more years until her retirement. These three justices have skillfully served the Commonwealth and its residents. Each of these justices were recommended for retention by the Pennsylvania Bar Association Judicial Evaluation Commission. Their retention, as well as the election of Philadelphia-based candidates rated Highly Recommended and Recommended by the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Commission on Judicial Selection and Retention, demonstrates that voters care about having qualified judges on the bench and they value having nonpartisan sources of information about the candidates.”
“We would like to thank all of the members of our Judicial Commission, our investigative volunteers, and members of our voter education PAC, the Campaign for Qualified Judges, for their work during this year’s election cycle. Your tireless efforts have truly made a difference. We would also like to thank all of our members who volunteered and donated their time on Election Day. Your work helping to ensure free and fair elections has furthered the cause of equal access to justice for all Pennsylvanians.”
