Philadelphia Bar Association Chancellor Katayun I. Jaffari issued the following statement in memory of Bruce Lee Castor Sr., a retired attorney who worked for Ballard Spahr for 48 years, who passed away on July 29.
“Bruce Lee Castor Sr. was an active and passionate attorney in the Philadelphia legal community. He was a member of the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, member of the American Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the Philadelphia Bar Association, and the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel,” Jaffari said. “We join the community in mourning this loss and offer our heartfelt sympathies to his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of working alongside Bruce.”
Castor's legal career began in 1956, following his discharge from the Army, when he joined Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll, as it was then called, as an associate. He rose to partner in 1965 and became managing partner of the firm in 1979. Bruce served multiple terms on the firm’s Elected Board and led the Estates Group (now Private Client Services). Clients relied on his steady demeanor and his expertise in estate planning, estate and trust administration, and related areas.
He gave back to his community by serving for many years on the Board of Directors of the Presbyterian Home for Aged Couples and Aged Persons. He was also President of the Board of Directors of Meadowbrook School, a member the Board of Springside School, Secretary of Huntington Valley Country Club, and a Ruling Elder and Trustee of Abington Presbyterian Church.
