The Philadelphia Bar Association has joined fellow bar associations in signing onto an American Bar Association statement in support of the rule of law and a second statement, prepared by the New York City Bar Association, supporting the independence of the legal profession and the judiciary.
“We are proud to join with our colleagues in speaking out in support of the foundational tenets of our democracy – respect for the rule of law, the importance of judicial independence, and the fundamental right of representation and equal access to justice,” Philadelphia Bar Association Chancellor Katayun I. Jaffari said. “Any efforts to undermine and attack judges and lawyers only weakens our legal system. Any attempts to weaken the rights of some is a danger to all.”
