The Philadelphia Bar Association issued a statement honoring the memory of Cozen O’Connor Founder and Chairman Stephen A. Cozen, who recently passed away. Cozen founded Cozen O’Connor in 1970. At the time, the firm had just four attorneys. Today, the firm has more than 900 lawyers and 32 offices in the U.S., Canada and the U.K.

“We were saddened to hear of the passing of Steve Cozen, who has been a prominent leader of the Philadelphia legal community for decades,” Chancellor Jen Coatsworth said. “We were honored to recognize Steve at our Annual Meeting on December 10 as a 2024 inductee to our 60-Year Club, celebrating his many decades in practice.”

“Steve and Cozen O’Connor have long been stalwart advocates of our Association, with 100% membership for the firm’s attorneys,” Coatsworth continued. “Steve clearly saw the value of Cozen attorneys being a part of an organization that works for the betterment of the legal profession and the clients we serve, and our Association appreciated his support of our mission. He will be greatly missed.”

“Steve Cozen was a pioneer and he built a law firm with a culture that makes us all feel welcomed and included,” said Chancellor-Elect Katayun Jaffari, chair of the Corporate Governance Group, co-chair of the Capital Markets & Securities Group, and co-chair of the ESG Group at Cozen O’Connor. “Steve believed in this City and in the power of Philadelphia lawyers. He encouraged Cozen attorneys to grow and achieve in our practice, but also to look beyond the firm to see how we could serve our community and make a difference. I am grateful for the inspiration I gained from his leadership.”
