Santos-Singh was longtime chair of the Delivery of Legal Services Committee and a recipient of the Bending the ARC Award.

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Philadelphia Bar Association Chancellor Jen Coatsworth released the following statement remembering longtime member and community leader Anita Santos-Singh, founding executive director of Philadelphia Legal Assistance, who died on January 13:

“The Philadelphia Bar Association is profoundly saddened at the loss of Anita Santos-Singh, founding executive director of Philadelphia Legal Assistance and longtime co-chair of the Association’s Delivery of Legal Services Committee. Anita was a tireless advocate for access to justice who dedicated her life to helping Philadelphia’s most vulnerable populations meet critical needs including economic, family and physical safety and stability. She was also a beloved mentor and friend who helped countless young attorneys learn, develop and grow in their practice and in their advocacy for their clients.

“In addition to her work on the DLSC Committee, Anita also served on the Association’s Access to Justice and Civil Gideon Task Force. Our Public Interest Section honored her decades of service on behalf of indigent populations with its 2015 Bending the ARC Award. That award recognizes legal professionals for their “achievement, resilience and courage” – in her work and life, Anita truly embodied those words. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and admired her. We extend our deepest condolences to Anita’s family and friends.”
