Philadelphia Bar Association Chancellor Marc J. Zucker issued the following statement congratulating Hon. Anne E. Lazarus on being named President Judge of the Pennsylvania Superior Court:
“The Philadelphia Bar Association offers our sincere congratulations to Judge Anne E. Lazarus on becoming President Judge of the Pennsylvania Superior Court. Judge Lazarus has long been a strong supporter of our Association, first as an attorney in Philadelphia, then on the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas bench from 1991-2009 and, since 2009, as a judge on Superior Court. We look forward to continuing to work with her in her new role,” Zucker said. “Judge Lazarus’s elevation to president judge of our Superior Court has symbolic significance as well, as women now will lead all three of Pennsylvania’s statewide appellate courts, in addition to the Courts of Common Pleas in the state’s two largest counties, Philadelphia and Allegheny. This is an historic moment for our judicial system and for the Commonwealth as a whole. We hope the leadership of these outstanding women judges will serve as an inspiration to future generations of young women who can now see a path for themselves to seek leadership roles within our profession. We look forward to working with each of these jurists to advance issues of importance to our profession and to the clients we serve.”
